Complementary & Supportive Breast Cancer Treatments

As part of our commitment to providing a broad spectrum of breast cancer treatment options, every Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) facility offers complementary/supportive breast cancer therapies. These include naturopathic medicine, nutrition, acupuncture, mind-body medicine, spiritual support and more. Our welcoming staff of specialists will work with your team of doctors to give you the most comprehensive and best possible care.

At CTCA, we treat all of you—not just your cancer. Head to toe, heart and soul, you are all that matters to us.

Our whole-body approach to cancer treatment includes complementary therapies that are designed to help balance and nurture you. Many of these therapy options have been used for thousands of years around the globe to increase energy levels, reduce side effects and stress, and restore emotional and physical well-being. Not only can our complementary/supportive breast cancer therapies help reduce side effects of conventional treatments, but they may also boost your immune system and increase the overall effectiveness of conventional therapies you are receiving.

Working together with you, your CTCA doctors will help you select the complementary therapies that are most appropriate for your breast cancer treatment.

Nutritional support

Establishing a healthy diet is just as important for maximizing the effectiveness of your breast cancer treatment as it is for ensuring your overall health during after care and beyond. At CTCA, our nutritionists/dietitians work with you to develop customized diet plan to help you recover your health, strengthen you for conventional breast cancer treatments (e.g., chemotherapy, radiation) and help minimize potential side effects of those treatments.

Naturopathic medicine

At this time, CTCA is proud to be the only cancer hospital of its kind to offer naturopathic therapies that complement our conventional breast cancer treatment options. Focusing on the natural healing power of the body, naturopathic medicine encompasses a broad range of nurturing alternative therapies that include the use of botanical medicines, homeopathic remedies, vitamin and mineral supplements, acupressure or acupuncture, and more.

Mind-body medicine

Our mind-body therapists can help you regain a positive sense of yourself. They can also help you to reclaim your emotional well-being. Our Mind-Body Medicine Program is designed to help you use the strength of your mind to take you forward in your journey to heal. We offer individual, group and family counseling; support groups; guided imagery and relaxation training; and education on stress management techniques.

Spiritual support

New research shows that spirituality and religion can play a vital role in helping people cope with cancer. From the day CTCA was founded, the belief that faith can carry people through difficult times has been an integral part of our philosophy. No matter what your religious background or beliefs may be, we can help you explore ways that spirituality can play a part in your healing.

Cancer pain management

Ninety percent of people who experience pain from breast cancer treatment are able to find relief from their pain. At CTCA, your doctors and clinicians will help you choose from a wide range of conventional pain-reduction treatments, including surgery, medication and nerve-numbing techniques. In addition, we offer complementary/alternative options, such as acupuncture, acupressure, visualization and meditation.

Physical therapy

New research shows that women who have breast cancer and engage in moderate cardiovascular exercise during the treatment process often have fewer side effects than similar women who do not exercise. At CTCA, you’ll have the opportunity to consult with a physical therapist even before your breast cancer treatment begins. This way you can discuss your goals and learn about all of the services that will be available to you during treatment.
