Breast Cancer Information
If you have been diagnosed with breast cancer, or have reason to believe you have breast cancer, you should be aware of these important facts. Breast cancer may spread to other parts of the body. In some cases, breast cancer cells have spread into the lymph nodes under the arms. When breast cancer has reached these nodes it may mean that cancer cells have spread even further into the body. In this case, cancer may be found in other lymph nodes and organs such as the liver, lungs, or bones. When cancer spreads this way it still has the name of the primary cancer (ex. breast cancer). Metastatic breast cancer is the term used when breast cancer spreads to parts of the body that are distant from the breasts.
Risks of Breast Cancer
According to the National Cancer Institute, one in eight women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer during her lifetime.
