IORT for brain cancer
IORT is presently under investigational use as a brain cancer treatment option at CTCA. In order to be a candidate for IORT, patients must be eligible for brain cancer surgery, with a brain tumor that is resectable.
By delivering a single, powerful dose of radiation directly to a tumor site immediately after a brain tumor is removed, while shielding the surrounding healthy brain tissues. Also, IORT helps brain cancer patients finish treatment and get back to their lives quicker by reducing the need for additional radiation treatments.
