Chemotherapy for Brain Cancer

Chemotherapy is one of the brain cancer treatment options provided at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA). Chemotherapy drugs, often called “anticancer” drugs, aim to destroy brain cancer cells by impeding the cells’ growth and reproduction. Chemotherapy may be given intravenously (through a vein), by mouth, or by injection. Chemotherapy may be used alone, or in combination with other brain cancer treatments, such as radiation therapy and/or surgery.

In addition to offering many standard chemotherapy protocols for brain cancer, your CTCA care team also offers new chemotherapy delivery methods, such as fractionated-dose chemotherapy. This approach involves administering the total chemotherapy dose in smaller amounts over a longer period of time, instead of in one large, single dose. Fractionated dose chemotherapy may help reduce some of the unpleasant side effects of standard chemotherapy, such as nausea and vomiting.

At CTCA, we understand treatment-related side effects can greatly impact your quality of life. That is why, throughout your brain cancer treatment, your care team will also provide various complementary medicine therapies. These supportive therapies can help reduce treatment-related side effects and improve your quality of life.
