3D Conformation Radiation for Brain Cancer

An external beam radiation therapy, 3D conformal radiation uses computed tomography (CT) planning to take a picture of the tumor and surrounding brain tissue in three dimensions. Then, lasers are calibrated to match the shape of the tumor and precisely-focused radiation beams are delivered directly to it. This exact targeting allows for higher doses of radiation, while at the same time helping to reduce exposure to nearby normal brain tissue.
