Extreme Drug Resistance for Bone Cancer

One of the innovative methods the experts at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) use to customize treatment plans for bone cancer patients is the Extreme Drug Resistance (EDR) Assay. Also referred to as chemoresistance, the EDR assay is a highly accurate test for solid tumors.

The EDR assay is used to determine the probability of a tumor’s resistance to specific chemotherapeutic drugs. If tumor cells continue to grow when faced with extreme exposure to a certain chemotherapy drug, it indicates a significant resistance to that drug. Thus, if a tumor is resistant to a drug in an EDR assay, then the tumor growing in the patient’s body will most likely be resistant to that drug.

By testing for drug resistance prior to initiating therapy, the Extreme Drug Resistance Assay can help CTCA physicians avoid unnecessary toxicity to you, minimize costs, and consider other bone cancer treatment protocols.
