3D Conformal Radiation for Bone Cancer
Another innovative radiation technique being used at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) is three-dimensional (3D) conformal radiation therapy. This radiation therapy uses computed tomography (CT) planning to produce an image of a bone tumor and surrounding tissue in three dimensions. This allows multiple radiation beams to be shaped exactly to the contour of the treatment area. Because the radiation beams are precisely focused on the location of cancerous cells, 3D conformal radiation can usually help spare nearby normal bone tissue.
