Changes to both your skin and nails may occur as a result of your treatments. Your skin may be more dry and flaky than what is normal for you. You may also experience increased sensitivity to the sun, called “photosensitivity”. Changes may also occur in the appearance and texture of your nails. These changes are usually limited to when you are undergoing treatment. If you need help while at home, please contact your healthcare provider.

What Can I Do To Manage Skin & Nail Changes?

  • Use products to relieve dry skin such as Moisterel or Eucerin. Avoid products with lanolin or other irritants such as alcohol or perfumes.
  • Bathe or shower at least every other day using mild soap (Dove, Tone, Basis, Lowila, Oilatum), and warm (not hot) water.
  • Avoid tanning booths, and limit sun exposure, especially during peak hours (10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.).
  • Wear protective clothing, use sunglasses, hat, and sunscreen (SPF 15 or above) to protect skin.
  • Keep nails clean and trimmed.
  • Carefully trim your nails, avoid tearing your nails or cutting your skin.
  • If you wear nail polish, use nail polish removers which contain oil to prevent drying.
