President and CEO, Western Regional Medical Center
Matt McGuire is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) at Western Regional Medical Center (Western). He oversees all hospital operations efforts and facility initiatives for the hospital, including PCA/Physician Recruitment, Medical Staff Services, Culinary, Oncology Patient Services, Outpatient Clinic, Care Management, Scheduling, Intake, Nurse Navigation, Clinical Research, Rehabilitation, Mind-Body Medicine, Pastoral Care, Nutrition, Laboratory, Non-Employed Physicians, Plant Operations which includes Housekeeping, Bio Medical, Security and Construction. Mr. McGuire also oversees operational duties and patient acquisition for the Seattle Treatment and Wellness Center in Seattle, Washington.
Mr. McGuire joined CTCA in 2000 and has more than 13 years of experience in management, leadership, development, sales, marketing, patient and talent acquisition at CTCA, on both the corporate and regional levels.
He began his career as a member of the two-year CTCA Management Fellow Program. After his time as a fellow, Mr. McGuire became General Manager in charge of development and growth for Cancer Nutrition Centers of America (CNCA), a premium dietary supplement provider. He spent two years managing and developing this entity and today CNCA still continues to serve thousands of people, providing them with the expert nutritional support they need to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Mr. McGuire was then promoted to Southwestern Regional Medical Center (Southwestern) in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 2004, spending two years as Director of Marketing. During his tenure, he was responsible for architecting the design and implementation of the organization’s first key market development strategy and created a concentrated regional marketing plan. He was responsible for leading the Southwestern marketing team to achieve two consecutive 25 percent year-over-year patient acquisition results.
In 2006, Mr. McGuire was promoted to Vice President of Human Resources for the CTCA enterprise, making him the youngest Vice President and Corporate Function Head in the history of CTCA. Throughout his five-year term, he worked to fully understand the needs of CTCA employees and create enterprisewide initiatives that positively affected employees’ lives and drive to improve patient care. He was responsible for the implementation of the new CTCA benefits platform, launching the Stakeholder Family Rewards program, selecting the company’s health plan administrator, leading the complete design of the CTCA compensation and performance management system, transitioning the executive search process from external to an internally resourced program and succession planning process. He is proud of his work with redesigning the Accelerated Development Program (ADP), which received national recognition by the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business as a premier talent development program.
In 2011, Mr. McGuire was selected as the new Senior Vice President of Operations at Western in Goodyear, Arizona. Under his leadership, he has led many initiatives that have improved Western’s reputation with cancer patients and within the community. From the recruitment of high caliber physicians from nationally known hospital systems, to the consistently high treatment rate, record patient NPS® satisfaction scores of 95+, the development of Western’s Hospitalist Program, enhancement of Western’s Strategy Development and Management initiatives and the enhancement of Western’s revenue generating service lines, all resulting in increased stakeholder and patient loyalty scores. Most notably, Mr. McGuire’s proudest accomplishments have been the creation and execution of the 25-acre CTCA Hope Springs Organic Farm. This reputation- and revenue-generating project has put Western on the map as the only hospital in the country with an organic farm of this size housed on the property. The farm provides significant benefits to Western’s patients and their caregivers by providing nutritious, fresh and naturally grown produce. Also under Mr. McGuire’s leadership, Western has implemented and completed several large projects throughout the facility, currently executing $24 million in projects and within the next six to eight months, and will be requesting an additional $28 million for additional patient and revenue enhancements.
Mr. McGuire is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the Arizona Healthcare Executives, as well as a member of Society of Healthcare Strategy and Market Development. He is a founding member of the West Valley Mavericks, a men’s organization focusing on community needs in the West Valley. He is an active volunteer with Arizona Assistance in Health Care (AAHC) and was the Co-Chair of the AAHC New Year’s Eve Gala that raised more than $350,000 for the organization. He is a member of and supporter of St. Thomas Aquinas Church and is a seven-time CTCA Mentor with the Accelerated Development Program.
Mr. McGuire was nominated for the 2013 Society of Healthcare Strategy and Market Development Professional Excellence Award in Innovation and Community Service and the 2013 Arizona Business Leaders in Healthcare – Administrators of Specialty Hospitals. He was also nominated for the Phoenix Business Journal’s 2013 Health Care Heroes in the – Non-Physician category for his work in developing the Hope Springs Organic Farm.
Mr. McGuire received a Masters of Business Administration from Arizona State University and a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in Rhetoric from Wabash College in Indiana. Mr. McGuire and his wife Meredith, a former public relations executive, have three children and reside in Litchfield Park, Arizona.
